About this Course

As focus has shifted onto student retention and completion, colleges around the country are making changes to their advising and counseling student pathways. This second part of the two-part series on the first-year student experience explores what successful advising and counseling programs have done to retain significantly more first-year students and usher them to a completed degree or certification.

You will hear about an initiative that pooled the resources and experience of community colleges statewide that together represent an enrollment of over 316,000 students.  You will also hear how a  rural community college leveraged their existing resources to increase their graduation rates by 15% over a period of 2 years.  Their combined stories  will benefit anyone who is considering the steps necessary to change the success rate of incoming first-year or transfer students.
