About this Course

Competency-based education (CBE) has been the buzz around the nation in education. Many colleges and universities have already implemented some form of CBE or are currently examining future adoption of a CBE model. Student success and ensuring students graduate as competent professionals are benchmarks of a successful education, but for many students the institutional focus on seat time, contact hours, and credit hours are major hurdles to completion and success. CBE is shifting the focus from seat time to student-centered learning, where students progress by demonstrating their competence, which means they show they have mastered the skills and knowledge (competencies) required for a particular course – regardless of how long it takes. There are many models and many definitions of competency-based education. STARLINK interviews national CBE experts to discuss impact on faculty, best practices, challenges, opinions, and tips regarding competency-based education.
