About this Course

In this module, you’ll learn the Know, Want to Learn, Learn, (K-W-L) teaching strategy. We’ll start by talking about the benefits of using KWL, and how you might use it in your classroom. You’ll learn the basics of creating a KWL graphic organizer and see how the KWL strategy has been used for preparing students to read expository text, for assessment, for research, and for study. We’ll look at how to use wikis, concept maps and note-taking apps to implement KWL asa collaborative activity. You’ll learn some tips to increase accessibility for your students. And finally we’ll talk about some extensions of KWL that help students develop and use 21st Century skills. This module offers downloadable documents of links to online templates and resources to help you dig deeper into the KWL strategy.
 
By the end of this learning module, the learner will be able to:
 
• Define the KWL teaching strategy
• Explain how KWL can be used in the traditional and online classroom
• Demonstrate creating a KWL graphic organizer
• Describe how to use KWL as a collaborative activity
