About this Course

With so many tools, technology innovations, and apps - integrating technology into teaching in higher education can be a daunting and challenging task. STARLINK interviews experts to provide a sound theoretical and pedagogical foundation for helping educators make the best decisions about integrating the use of technology into teaching.

Module 1: Overview, Challenges, and Best Practices of Educational Technology

“Technology should enhance your teaching, not change your teaching.”

STARLINK asks our experts to discuss the emerging technologies, integrated technologies, best practices, and challenges of becoming an “educational technologist”. Our experts address the "top three questions to ask", goals to focus on when implementing technology, the SAMR model of learning, and dealing with technology “paradigm shifts” at your institution.

Module 2: Educational Technology in the “Real World” and Educational Apps

“Students know when technology without purpose is being imposed on them.” Allan Heap, Center for Internet Technology

Utilizing technology for the sake of technology is not effective. However, strategic implementation of educational technology improves student engagement, helps you achieve your learning objectives, and leaves lasting impressions on your student’s learning experience. STARLINK asks our experts to weigh in on real-world examples and applications to bolster student success. In this module, we discover useful apps and real-world exercises.

Module 3: OER and the Future of Educational Technology

Over the past thirty years, textbook costs have increased over 800%. More than 50% of students report they take fewer classes due to textbook costs. The concept of open educational resources (OER) is growing at a fast pace, reducing educational costs for students. STARLINK explores OER and future trends in educational technology – including increased mobility, unbundling, increased portability, hyperconnectivity, and predictive analytics.
